Equipment and Specialized Software


The acquired equipment is aligned with the competence center´s strategic plan and it will allow to offer some unique services. For example, the virtual reconstruction of physical pieces of machines from photographs and the subsequent manufacturing of functional copies or replacements using the SLS printer. This may be particularly useful, for example, for repairing machines for which it is difficult or too expensive to acquire spare parts (for example, for discontinued machine models). For new designs of machines or mechanical systems, the SLS technology will also allow to manufacture functional prototypes more quickly and easily.

Last generation Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printing equipment, technology with outstanding mechanical properties that allows for functional prototyping and even small production batches.

Two HP Z4 workstations loaded with CAD-CAE-CAM software, including state-of-the-art 3D Flow Zephyr Pro

Last generation workstations loaded with CAD-CAE-CAM software, with a wide array of tools for design, analysis, simulation, and, with 3D Zephyr Pro, sophisticated reconstruction of parts and components from photographs.

3D printing equipment for other materials

Available from the Department of Engineering Studies for Innovation and other areas of the university, an ample offer of state of the art 3D printing equipment with other technologies, materials, sizes and resolutions, from leading companies in the area (Stratasys, Markforged, MakerBot, Witbox, Ultimaker, Dremel).

The location of this Competence Centre within CIMA, at the heart of the laboratory infrastructure of the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Program allows easy access to a large number of additional resources for design, prototyping and testing, allowing to draw from them as required for projects with industrial clients.

Tension, compression, fatigue, vibration, and more testing machines or devices with equipment from leaders in the field, like Instron.

Industrial grade manufacturing equipment

State of the art CNC and laser cutting capabilities with equipment from industry leaders (Haas, Kryle, McLane).
